For more than 30 years, Spectrex has been designing and manufacturing 'state of the art' industrial flame detection, gas detection, and military fire detection and suppression systems. We pioneered the introduction of combination UV/IR flame detectors in 1980. 15 years ago, we invented the first IR3 flame detector, which has now become the standard for flame detection in extremely hazardous environments and more recently, invented the Flash type IR open path flammable gas detector that made them immune to false alarms and, finally, "fit for purpose".
We invented it - we perfected it! Various versions of our IR3 flame detector now exist, each one designed to meet the specific flame criteria for the application, whether it be an offshore oil rig, a turbine enclosure, a refinery, an aircraft hangar or an atrium or superdome requiring efficient but inexpensive flame detection. Our detector range now includes many detection techniques to suit the myriad of applications - techniques include, Triple IR (IR3), Multi IR, UV/IR, CCTV, single UV and IR detectors.
Spectrex has also pioneered the automatic fire detection and suppression system for armored vehicles crew and engine compartments. Over 20,000 vehicles worldwide, including the MRAP (Mine Resistant Armored Personnel) vehicles, currently in production for the US Army and Marines, include a Spectrex SAFE system. This system will detect and extinguish an explosion in a tank or troop carrying vehicle in less than 250 milliseconds!
